As it happens, this current project of making a real web shooter wasn't my first attempt. My previous attempt (ignoring my first try during very early school years, which involved covering string with glue and stuffing it inside a toilet roll) was a few months ago, and it was a reasonable attempt, in my opinion. You see, I was trying to think of all the ways to make a web shooter, and I came up with too realistic ways. I chose the simplest one.
The concept, put very simply, was a wrist mounted slingshot (or catapult, as it's apparently called here in England). It would have mechanical features, of course, but the way it fired was the same as a slingshot. I'll show you a picture of it, so you can quickly get an idea of how it was supposed to work.

As you can see there, I placed two metal screws through a toilet roll (deal with it) and glued them in place. So the plan was to have an elastic band between them, which the end of the "web", in the form of a hook, presumably, would hook onto. It would then be pulled back crossbow style (but not manually; using a mechanism to pull it back) and then released, which would fire the string. The hook on the end of it would wrap round something like a grappling hook.
But alas, this picture is as far as I got with the project. The problem was that the only elastic band that was strong enough to be able to fire something a decent distance was too thick and cumbersome.
However, this new version of the project is definitely going to work!
Probably.
