As it turns out, sellotape isn't strong enough to hold my weight! Who'd have thought, eh? So the hooks kind of came off the board as I was testing it on the wall. But anyway, the good news: It created a lot of grip. I'd kind of lost my confidence in this project after so much time, but the prototype did create a lot of grip, so I'm pleased again.
Something else I did was a test that Prototype This (the show I referenced in the first post on this blog) did. When they made their devices, they placed them on the wall to see if they would hold themselves up. And they did. So I then tried the same. It wasn't smooth, but with some fiddling, it stayed there. Here are some pictures:
What I've done now is exactly as I said I would do. I've taken off the sellotape and reattached the sets of hooks to the board with super glue. Except this time, I placed them closer together, so now they make up only two rows instead of three. That actually stays on the wall easier than the first attempt, but when I tried to pull it down the wall to see how much grip it would create, one of the sets of hooks came off. So I reattached that, and now I'm going to glue and paper mache over their bases to reinforce them. Hopefully that will be enough.
