Speaking of my highly dubious friends, when they came round last week, we had a wander around the town. We weren't looking for anything to do with my projects, however, something excellent happened! As we went into Cash Converters (to look at watches, I think), William pointed out the rack of fish hooks by the door! There were all sorts of different types.
Remember many months ago when I told you that I had looked for fish hooks but could only find them online, and they were considerably too expensive? Well, guess what! The ones we found last week were only 99p for a pack of 20! My friend once said: "You're the greatest tightwad I've ever met." But I'm not that much of one, so I bought 4 packs and was very happy.
This is very good, since they're considerably smaller than the hooks I made myself, and I can easily get more of them when necessary. However, there are some problems.
Firstly, they aren't nearly as strong as the other hooks. I couldn't bend those in the slightest with my bare hands, but I can just about bend these. They're still quite strong, though, so I'm sure they'll be sufficient.
Secondly, they point straight down. You might not immediately get why that's bad, so I'll explain. The previous hooks, as you can see in the pictures, were at an angle. Both parts of the hooks weren't parallel to each other. But these ones are. And because of that, the tip of each hook won't be any further forward then the flat part of the hook. That means that they won't be able to get into all those little bumps and groves, which renders the whole thing pointless.
So, I'll have to bend all the hooks slightly, to make them be at a sufficient angle. That will be inconvenient, but definitely easier than having to make them all myself.
